The Groningen Egg Ball, who doesn't know it? This year two foreign students from the Hanze, from Italy and Cyprus, took the annual Groningen egg ball test. Once again, an old acquaintance came out best in the test: Cafeteria Koning. On behalf of TakeAware, we would like to congratulate them warmly!
What exactly is the Egg Ball?
The Egg Ball, also known as "Aaierbal," is a typical Groningen snack. This snack consists of a hard-boiled egg encased in a layer of ragout. Then the ball is breaded and deep-fried to a crispy snack.
Egg Ball Test 2024
This year, the egg ball test team consisted of two foreign students from the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, from Cyprus and Italy. These students had never tasted an egg ball before. They visited six addresses selected based on various Google reviews. They visited Big Snack Hoek, Frietwinkel, Friet van Piet, Cafetaria Tasty Joe, Cafetaria 't Vosje and Cafetaria Koning to determine who serves the very best egg ball.
What makes for the perfect egg ball?
Several factors are considered during the egg ball test. Consider:
- The size of the egg ball
- How it is presented
- The texture of the egg ball
- The taste experience
Cafeteria Koning as best in test
In the end, the old familiar Cafeteria Koning came out best in the test with an 8.2. Finishing second was Friet van Piet with an 8 and in third place was Cafeteria Tasty Joe with a 7.9. What makes Cafetaria Koning's egg ball so special remains a secret family recipe.
